Post-secondary apps skyrocket in recession (2009)

When the going gets tough, the tough get learning. That’s what some experts say is the reason for the increase in post-secondary applications this year. The number has not been higher since the double cohort in 2003, and the applicant increase percentage has doubled for winter college programs compared to last year’s growth.  Read more

Millions of voters will make their way to the polls in October, but so will their kids. In an effort to boost voter turnout and political awareness, Student Vote and Elections Canada will offer underage students some voting practice at thousands of elementary and secondary schools this fall.  Read more


McGuinty grant soothes textbook sting (2008)

The Provincial Government has finally released application details about the Textbook and Technology Grant, announced last spring. Students can now apply for the $150 grant to help offset the cost of textbooks, laptops, and other required learning tools. It is part of the Skills to Job Action Plan: a three year, $1.5 billion commitment announced last March. Read more


Proposed fitness centre too ambitious… (Editorial, 2008)

There aren’t a whole lot of walls on campus where you won’t find a “Vote Yes” poster. Some doorways even have several identical signs plastered side-by-side, in case one wasn’t enough. The MSA, SAC, and the college are doing a great job telling you how to vote, but there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of opposition to the campaign.  Read more
