Biography

Nathan Swyers is a journalist living in Stoney Creek, Ontario. He was born in the small town of Kitimat, British Columbia, and moved to Ontario at a young age.

He currently interns at The Bay Observer, a newspaper in Hamilton, Ontario. From 2008 to earlier 2009, he served as the managing editor of The Satellite, Mohawk’s campus newspaper. A year earlier, he worked at the paper as a staff writer.

In 2008, Nathan won the Excellence in Print Journalism award at Mediafest. In his final year, he won the silver Andy Award, the Merit for Academic Excellence, as well as the MSA Award of Excellence for his work on The Satellite.

In April 2009, Nathan earned an advanced diploma in Print and Broadcast Journalism. Before attending Mohawk, he received his undergraduate education at the University of Western Ontario. There, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Honors Visual Arts and English as well as the Writing Certificate, graduating at the top of his program, and winning the University of Western Ontario Gold Medal.

While attending Western, Nathan served as the VP of Publication for The Western Review, an online newsletter-style publication produced by students from various faculties. He also occasionally wrote for The Gazette, Western’s daily student newspaper.

In 2004, he worked as freelance reviewer for MPOGD.com and several other online publications later, such as Gamernode.com.
